How to setup an email address in outlook express
Every day i will try to post a helpful tip that a user has asked for help with. Today’s question was “how to setup my email in outlook?”
This is referring to Outlook Express, not Office Outlook. Although the procedures are fairly the same.
First things first, there is some information that you will need from your isp in order to do this. This information can usually be found on your isp’s website, you will need there incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail server addresses. For this example we are dealing with comcast, as that is the request from the user.
Now let’s open up outlook express, from the top navigation select Tools then Accounts. This brings up your Internet Accounts settings menu, select the Mail tab. Now click on Add and Mail. Now type in your Display Name, this is the name that will appear in the From field on all emails you send out. Fill in your name and then hit next. Now type in your email address and hit next again. Now we are at the menu where you put in your mail server addresses than we discussed before. For comcast users the incoming mail server is mail.comcast.net and the outgoing is smtp.comcast.net so just fill in both of these fields and hit next. This brings up your account login information, some mail servers will require your entire email address as your username. For comcast however you just need the prefix of you address for example username@comcast.net with username being the prefix. So enter your username and password and hit next once again. Now simply hit Finish and then close the Internet Accounts menu and your all set.
That is how you setup a new email address in outlook express, pretty painless huh. How you found this tip useful.
