How to Play in the Wind
Sure, when the weather is perfect all you have to worry about it your golf game. But what happens when the wind is blowing hard? You are going to have to make some adjustments that will help you get through the elements while still putting up a decent number. The first thing to realize is that everyone’s score is going to be higher, you just have to accept that and come into the round with a positive outlook and accept the challenge of playing in the wind. Once you have a positive mindset there are some mechanical adjustments that you can incorporate in your game that will allow you to better score in the elements.
If the wind is blowing in your face, do not try and swing harder, this will only cause the ball to spin at a higher rate, thus increasing the velocity of the ball flight. And everyone knows you want to keep the ball as low to the ground as possible into the wind. On iron shots, be sure to place the ball back in your stance and grip down on the club. Take an abbreviated swing, less backswing, and follow though less of the way through as well, this will keep the ball low and under the wind. Putting can also be difficult, the most important thing to keep in mind is to keep your head still! Good luck and I hope these tips help you score well in the wind.
